Acupressure originated in China nearly 4,000 years ago, where early healers discovered points on the body where stimulation could assist recovery from illness and promote better health. They mapped energy pathways (called meridians) throughout the body and explored the connections between vital energy, physical structure, emotional or mental health, and the natural world.
Often called "acupuncture without needles," acupressure is a hands-on method of bodywork that is deeply relaxing and effective, and typically not painful. Acupressure can help significantly with pain management, stress reduction, digestive problems, insomnia, chronic illnesses, emotional balancing, and many other conditions.
I specialize in Soul Lightening Acupressure, which was developed by Aminah Raheem, a pioneer of mind-body-spirit integration work, as an outgrowth of her work in psychology, bodywork, and spiritual practice. It draws upon the five element tradition of classical Chinese medicine and the chakra system of Ayurvedic medicine, along with contemporary concepts and techniques from Zero Balancing, Jin Shin Jyutsu, and transpersonal psychology. Soul Lightening Acupressure, in its Clinical and Process forms, bridges these disciplines to create a truly whole-person bodywork modality.
